Gail Hayward

Churchwarden, St Michael, Little Witley

I was born in the UK in 1946 and but was brought up in Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe as well as here. Of my four children, three were born in Africa.

My husband and I taught at Bromsgrove School for many years and played an active part in all aspects of school life including the extra-curricular. In order for the girl cadets to take part, I even completed three years of Nijmegen marches in Holland. Sadly my fitness is not what it was!

My Christian Faith has been an integral part of my life for as long as I can remember and has helped me through many of life’s ups and downs. My husband was unwell for some years, and after his death my faith helped me to accept this and to accept the love and support of family and community. For many years I was closely involved in the spiritual and pastoral life of the school and chapel. Once during a difficult time the words, “Come unto me all ye who travail and are heavy laden and I will refresh you” just came into my mind and I was reminded of the importance of prayer and seeking God’s guidance!

In recent years I have become much more involved in our local church community and was honoured to be asked to become churchwarden for Little Witley. I also really enjoy helping with the Café Church meetings where it is lovely seeing the very young and young at heart taking part in different activities together!
